Iberdrola’s Commitment to Ireland’s Offshore Wind Sector

Iberdrola, a global leader in renewable energy, has recently reinforced its commitment to Ireland's offshore wind sector by acquiring a 3 GW project pipeline from DP Energy. This strategic move marks a significant step in supporting Ireland’s renewable energy goals and bolstering the country’s efforts to meet its 2030 and 2050 targets.

The acquired projects are spread across three clusters on the east, west, and south coasts of Ireland. These include the Inis Ealga floating wind project off the coast of Cork, the Clarus project off the coast of Clare, and the Shelmalere project off the east coast. These projects, particularly the floating wind farms, demonstrate cutting-edge renewable technology and are expected to play a crucial role in Ireland's renewable energy landscape.

“With their extensive experience in offshore wind projects across the UK, Germany, the US, and France, Iberdrola brings valuable expertise and resources to Ireland’s renewable energy sector.”

Iberdrola’s entry into the Irish offshore wind market is poised to accelerate project timelines significantly. This acquisition is expected to aid Ireland in achieving its target of 5 GW of offshore wind capacity by 2030, a critical component of its broader strategy to transition to renewable energy.
